RUN Chicago

Fall season means a lot of things here in Chicago, but one of our ultimate favorites is that its marathon season. There are all kinds of runs in our city, many different themes, for different reasons, for all types of runners and for all ages. There are so many options to choose from, so we decided to give you the run-down on each to make it a little bit easier.

Monster Dash//October 25, 2014

One of our most popular races, this one brings runners from all 50 states and from more than 100 countries. This spectacle is not just a marathon, but consists of three days of fun parties, expos and, of course, lots of socializing in Grant Park. If you’re not running in this race, be sure to catch a glimpse of the runners down by the beach!

There are several sections for runners in this race, and each starts and ends at Grant Park’s Avery Field. There is a half marathon, a 10K and a 5K. The half marathon starts at 8am and has some fun perks such as a hoodie gift, a costume contest and on-course entertainment. The 10K starts at 8:15 am and also has the jacket gift along with the costume contest. The 5K is a bit different. This one is for kids as well and contains trick-or-treating at the water stops, costume contest, stained glass medal att he end AND the jacket gift, but there’s a catch! It has a one hour time limit.

Hot Chocolate 5K//November 9, 2014

Originally started in 2008 in Chicago, this race has spread to multiple cities throughout the US and has quickly become one of the largest races in the Midwest. Partnering with Ronald McDonald House Charities, all of the proceeds benefit each cities respective house. We personally enjoy this one, not only for the good cause, but also for its awesome swag bags at the end (with Hot Chocolate of course!).

Chicago Turkey Trot//November 27, 2014

This is a classic race in most cities, and supports Greater Chicago Food Depository. This year they are offering a 5K and an 8K as well as bringing back the Turkey Tailgate so you can bring along your family and friends to wait and cheer you on!
